Fifth Sunday of Easter
How was your week? Today is the first Sunday in May. We pray that God will protect us and lead us towards the religious path this month.
The Korean Catholic church dedicates certain months for various devotions so we may enhance our religious life:
- March: Saint Joseph
- May: The Blessed Virgin Mary
- June: The Sacred Heart of Jesus
- September: Month of the martyrs
- October: The Holy Rosary
- November: The Holy Souls in Purgatory
This month we are celebrating the Blessed Virgin Mary. It would be wonderful if we can devote ourselves to the Blessed Virgin Mary and spend more time with her this month so we may be closer to God.
You can experience the scent of spring outside of the church. Have you seen the buds of the green spring? As the snow melts, you can see the light green, purple, brown, and new leaves are coming out to present the colors of the season. The spring is already in our hearts but the green buds objectively indicate the arrival of spring.
Our community is also full of spring scents. The best way to pray in May is through rosary otherwise known as the bundle of roses. The rosary, which embodies the essence of the month, will present the colors of our faith. Although we are immersed in our religious life, as we devote each bead we are able to experience God’s blessings and objectively walk the path of faith.
When you pray, you should have clear intentions. I focus on certain intentions for each large bead:
- Joyful Mysteries:
- For Korea, peace and prosperity, president, social justice, and media reform
- Sorrow Mysteries:
- For our society and community, for those who have died, those who are suffering, those receiving baptism, and children.
- Luminous Mysteries:
- For the world, pandemic recovery, Myanmar peace, and democracy, racial equality.
- Glorious Mysteries:
- Clergies, Pope, Cardinals, Bishop, those clergies who are suffering
We are now in spring. The warmth and longer daytime are already with us, however, the green buds concretely prove we are in the season.
We are in the Blessed Virgin Mary month. Although we have celebrated the resurrection of Jesus and dedicated 2021 as the year of Saint Joseph, the rosary will reaffirm our love for Virgin Mary and move us one step closer to God.
Let us meditate for a moment.
